TrackMaster Horse Ratings Specification
The TrackMaster Horse Rating is a computer-based assessment of a horse's overall ability. The ratings are used to construct competitive fields without regard to wins or money earned. The ratings are based primarily on recently achieved TrackMaster speed ratings which serve as the overall best assessment of ability.
Every horse that finishes a pursed race gets a speed rating for that past performance. The TrackMaster Horse Rating averages the best 4 of the most recent 8 races after eliminating troubled trips (breaks, interference and the like), so long as they are within 150 days of the date computed. For horses that have raced more infrequently, the rating reflects using fewer or not as recent races.
To calculate a TrackMaster Horse Rating, the following algorithm is used:
- First, gather all of the horse's past performances with speed ratings* within two years of its last race of any kind
- ("10-Line Past Performances") TrackMaster Past Performances
- ("12-Line Platinum Past Performances") TrackMaster Platinum Past Performances
- ("Lifetime Past Performances") TrackMaster Lifetime Past Performances
- Next, eliminate races with any kind of break, broken equipment, interference, inside pylons, etc
- Of the remaining races, consider no more than the 8 most recent speed ratings and separate into two categories...
- ("Recent Ratings") speed ratings within 150 days of its last race
- ("Past Ratings") speed ratings that are >150 days and <= 2 years since its last race
*speed ratings for races where the horse was < 4 years old are "age adjusted" using a special formula
-
Speed ratings are available in a variety of TrackMaster products:
- ("Recent Ratings")
- if 7 or 8, average the highest 4
- if 5 or 6, average the highest 3
- if just 4, average the highest 2
- ("Recent Ratings")
- If 3, average the highest 2 - then weight @ 70%
- If 1 or 2, use the higher 1 - then weight @ 50%
- If 0, use 0 - then weight @ 2.5% (Note: this will result in taking 97.5% of "Past Ratings")
- ("Past Ratings")
- If 7 or 8, average the highest 4 - then weight @ 1 - "Recent Ratings" weight
- If 5 or 6, average the highest 3 - then weight @ 1 - "Recent Ratings" weight
- If 3 or 4, average the highest 2 - then weight @ 1 - "Recent Ratings" weight
- If 1 or 2, use the higher 1- then weight @ 1 - "Recent Ratings" weight
- If 0, use 0 and the horse will not get a rating
In order for a rating to be computed, a horse must be at least 3 years old, have at least 4 lifetime starts and must have raced in North America in the last 2 years. .The ratings range from 0.00 to 99.99
